3 years ago, I was lucky enough to be offered a job as a veterinarian assistant in a small animal veterinary hospital. My responsibilities was to assist the vets in restraining animals, dispensing medicine, surgeries and communicating with pet owners.
In my working life, I have gained a true understanding of the job scope of Pet MD and the commitment they have to make for their career.
Small animal veterinarian is a challenging but rewarding job. The veterinarian vary their responsibilities for covering the appointments so each day's duties vary. Those appointments range from consultations, new puppy or kitten visits, vaccinations, skin problems, sick animals, checking lumps and bumps, wound cleaning, suture removals and more. Sometimes there is an appointment for euthanasia.
The most common surgeries are spays, neuters, cesarean sections, tumor removals, dental scaling, fixing broken bones and tooth extractions.
I have gained valuable knowledge and experience about the health care of human's pets from the process of being a vet assistant. For instance, the health concerns that are often prone to certain species of cats and dogs, small animal behavior, welfare and pet care.
In short, I see healing human's best friend as a noble job and would love to be a part of the small animal medicine team once I have completed my studies in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree programme.
